What Even is a Therapist, Anyway?

Therapists are human too. We don’t grant wishes, give advice, or predict the future. We’re here to walk with you through the difficult crap, celebrate your wins, and build a relationship with you built on trust and non judgement.

While all therapists are different, let’s get a clear understanding of who they are in a broader sense.

Therepists Are Not:

  • all the same

  • miracle workers

  • able to predict the future

  • always able to bend to last minute schedule changes

  • all knowing

  • here to tell you what to do

  • fixers and cure-alls

  • judging you

  • advice givers

  • only willing to discuss challenges

  • all a great fit for you

Therapists Are:

  • here to listen

  • human

  • holding space for you to dive deep and discover what you need

  • here to guide and walk with you

  • part of your self care and support system

  • likely going to screw up a few times

  • willing to explore, validate, and honor your experience

  • likely clients themselves

  • working to build a trusting relationship with you

  • in full trust that you are the expert on your own life

Each therapist is different and unique. Some will be a great fit for you and some won’t. Be willing to keep searching for the therapist that is right for you. You owe it to yourself. And, if you need help knowing where to start in your search for a therapist, start here.

If you are looking for a therapist in the state of Georgia or the Atlanta area please don’t hesitate to reach out to me here.
